Intermittent Fasting
Eat your favourite foods to lose weight

Intermittent fasting helps me to lose weight by eating what I love to eat. Sounds unconventional? But it's true.

My benefits of weight loss by intermittent fasting also include but not limit to:

  • No purchase of expensive diet/meal plan
  • No food restriction/ calories counting
  • No expensive gym membership
  • No compulsory daily aerobic exercises
  • Work on my own pace
  • More mental clarity
  • Better mood
  • More energetic and optimistic
  • Really enjoy the taste of food
  • Enjoy doing my workouts in a fasted state
After all, it is a simple easy lifestyle. Weight loss doesn’t need to be expensive or fancy. I just do it silently and economically. In a few months’ time, I felt to have turned myself into another person – from over weight to slim; from bad mood to good mood; from tired to energetic and so on…If you try it out, your benefits list may be longer than mine.

If it is so good, how come it is not a hot topic in the media or forums? Well, weight loss/ diet niche is a multi billion dollar industry nowadays. How much profit is there by promoting intermittent fasting? I’m sure you’ve answered the question now.

What is Intermittent Fasting (IF)?

Mike O'Donnell (author of The IF Life ) names it as 'condense eating window', i.e., only eat between certain hours. In a nutshell, it is a flexible short term periodic fasting. IF weight loss is as simple as re-arranging the time you eat. According to Brad Pilon's Eat Stop Eat approach, simply employ two sessions of 24-hour fasting in a week flexibly and you can achieve weight loss naturally and gradually as well as the other health benefits that I mentioned above.

How Does IF help Losing Weight?
What Are the Foods You Can Eat to Lose Weight?

The only way you can lose weight ever, is to eat less calories than you burn off. This is as true as the sun rising from the east.

If you eat more food than you burn off then you will store fat and gain weight. If you eat less food than you burn off you will lose fat and lose weight. That’s it.

Intermittent fasting promotes maximum fat loss. If you employ these short term fasting two days a week, you are effectively cutting out a full two days caloric intake from your weekly consumption. This if combined with your workout can and does have a dramatic effect on the pace at which you lose excess fat.

So if I ask you to list the top 10 foods you can eat to lose weight, you can simply list any foods you would like to see on that list!

Remember the goal of IF is not about starving to lose weight. It is about just taking a short break in eating to enable natural fat burning as well as to stimulate hormonal and evolutionary genetic responses at the cellular level for better health. Weight loss does happen in the process. You will still be eating but just to re-arrange your time between eat and stop eat.

What To Expect?
May I ask how long you have been struggling with weight loss? A few months, couple of years or you can’t remember? If you would allow a similar amount of time practicing IF, you must see results, although different people see results at various speed. Take your time and you’ll see a slimmer and healthier you over the coming months. My experience was losing 20 pounds over a period of eight months.

How to do Intermittent Fasting?

There is no standard rule of doing it. Simply try it and make it work for you. The real guidelines are simplicity and flexibility and of course eat healthy foods.

May be ‘skip meal’ is the first and easiest step to start with and see how your body responds.

Pick a day to try skip breakfast. Have fresh juice, water or tea instead. See how your body responds. If that works out fine, try ‘skip lunch’ and move on progressively. A 24-hour fast can be done by anybody with an appropriate fasting mindset. The tip for success is not to think of food. This works really well even for experienced fasters like me.

You can also explore these IF options:

  • Condensed eating window, e.g. eat ONLY between 11am and 5pm;
  • Skip meal on an unplanned basis, as far as it is natural and not interfere your daily work;
  • Early and late, i.e. skip lunch;
  • One meal a day, ideally dinner only when you are relaxed and really have time to enjoy food. This is what I have been doing over the past four years. This will include a full 24-hour juice fasting or water fasting in between dinners. If you are new to this practice, check out my guidelines for juice fasting and water fasting;
  • Two meals a day, an approach originated by Mike O'Donnell. 1000s has taken his advice as to skip breakfast, quit the gym and to get outstanding results. Click here to learn more;
  • Alternate day fasting, i.e. eat on Monday and fast on Tuesday and so on. Read more

My Reversed Intermittent Fasting Journey
My process of developing an IF lifestyle was quite in a reverse order. I changed my eating habit, developed a new lifestyle without having the concept of intermittent fasting. It was until I wanted to share with the world the benefits I gained from fasting and understood that I was not alone.

Throughout the process, it was my body who told me it was the right way to eat. Since then, I never look back.

Though I won’t encourage your joining the IF community without knowing what it is all about, but you will never go wrong should you wish to give it a try. My advice is make it flexible, in order to ensure the least impact on your family and social/ work events.

More about my fasting windows.

Many diet plans may give you short term victory, but you’ll soon gain back the lost weight. In a research, it was only people who practice IF always remain slim even they put on weight after eating crazily over holidays or long weekends. These people usually resume their normal body weight once they resume fasting. And that’s why IF is sustainable for long term weight loss success. I’ve personally experienced this.
